ALBERTVILLE, Ala. – An Albertville pastor was shot Wednesday night in the parking lot of a church. He’s going to be okay, we understand, and two people have been arrested in the case.
Romeo Campos is charged with attempted murder. Police explained the series of events that led to the pastor being shot.
Albertville Police say a 15-year-old girl was propositioned by a man named Randall Ginn around 7 p.m. on 2nd Street, just off Baltimore Avenue.
The girl left and told family members. Ginn walked to Dixie Street Missionary Baptist Church, just a few blocks away on Dixie Circle.
Major Jamie Smith says the girl’s family members found Ginn there, where people were attending the Wednesday evening service. Three or four people were standing in the church parking lot with the pastor.
Smith said about the time Ginn walked up to the church, the girl’s family members pulled up in their car.
Police say Romeo Campos, one of the family members, fired at Gin and accidentally struck the pastor, Dennis Potter, in the shoulder.
Campos left the scene, and witnesses called 911 to get help for the pastor.
Police responded, and took Ginn into custody. He is charged with public intoxication.
Around midnight Thursday, Albertville Police, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and Boaz Police found Campos and arrested him without incident.
He is being held in the Albertville City Jail and is charged with Attempted Murder. At this time, no bond has been set.
Major Smith said Pastor Potter was supposed to have surgery Thursday morning, but is expected to be okay.
Major Smith said Randall Ginn lives in Henagar.
