CULLMAN COUNTY, Ala. - The strength of a mother's love. Is there anything on earth, as powerful? A valley mother fought through fire to rescue her child and one neighbor says the mother and father are "heroes."
Larry Johnson lives just up the hill from where this family's home caught fire in the early morning hours. "I was raised right up there and there has been a house here all my life, as long as I can remember," said Johnson.
It was a typical Wednesday, as Johnson made breakfast. "I looked out the window, I live a quarter of a mile but its a good, open view and I saw smoke and I tried to see what was going on," said Johnson.
Johnson says he experienced a devastation fire years ago and can understand what the family must be going through. "You can kinda deal with material things but when there's injuries, involved that gets deep," explained Johnson.
During the beginning of the fire, the mother rushed across the home to rescue her thirteen-year-old daughter. "That mother really put forth a strong, sacrificial effort to save her daughter, I mean that's what you would expect from a mother but to run through a blazing house and to pick her daughter up and tug her out," said Johnson.
